Alysa is a senior music education major at Drake University in the heart of Des Moines. Aside from student teaching, she is involved in choir, teaches piano lessons, and volunteers around her community.

Turning Type One Into Type None

Alysa’s Social Impact Initiative is entitled “Not Your Type: Advocating for Type 1 Diabetes.” Since her diagnosis with T1D on August 22nd, 2011, she has been dedicated to educating others about the realities of living with diabetes, advocating for affordable medication, and raising funds for a cure.
